Your personal data are processed by us only in accordance with the provisions of the GDPR. The following provisions describe the type, scope, and purpose of collecting, processing and utilizing personal data. This data privacy policy applies only to our web pages. If links on our pages route you to other pages, please inquire there about how your data are handled in such cases.

ATTENTION: cookies set up by services used on this website such as Twitter, reCAPTCHA, Google tools, Open street Map and YouTube may lead to your personal data being processed outside of the EU/EEA. In some countries, and especially in the USA, there is no adequate level of protection to personal data. There is, among others, a risk that authorities may access your personal data for security and surveillance purposes without informing you or giving you the right to appeal. Scope of Processing the Personal Data

Log files

When you visit our website, you transmit data to our web server via your Internet browser. The following data are temporarily recorded in a log file via an active connection that is established for communication purposes between your Internet browser and our web server:

  • The IP address of the requesting computer
  • The date and time of access
  • The name, URL, and the size of the retrieved file that has been transferred
  • Access status (the requested file was transferred, not found, etc.)
  • Identification data about the used browser and operating system (if transmitted by the requesting web browser)
  • Referring website (if transmitted by the requesting web browser)

In individual cases, i.e., in response to reported faults, errors, and security incidents, a manual analysis is performed.
The legal basis for processing this data is article 6, paragraph 1, point “ e” and article 6, paragraph 3, both of the GDPR, as well as paragraph 4 of the Hamburg Data Protection Act, and paragraph 3 of the Hamburg Higher Education Act.

Data storage in forms

We use forms on our websites in order, for example, to allow users to register for events or courses or to sign up for the press release, mailing list or a newsletter, or to be part of the BIO-PLASTICS EUROPE pool of stakeholders. The personal data that you provide to us via our websites are accepted only with your consent and are used exclusively for the purposes stated in the forms insofar as there is no legal basis to collect them otherwise. If you wish to withdraw your consent please contact us under bioplastics@ls.haw-hamburg.de. Please note the corresponding notices that are provided on the forms.
All of the forms are only used to collect personal information that is strictly necessary. Your data will not be disclosed to third parties unless this is explicitly stated in the form. The legal basis for processing this data is the informed consent according to article 6, paragraph 1, point “a” of the GDPR.

E-mail contacts

It is also possible to establish contact via the e-mail addresses provided on the HAW Hamburg websites. In this case of public interest, the user's personal data that are transmitted by e-mail will be stored in the inbox of the recipient. Such data are not forwarded to third parties. The legal basis for processing this data is article. 6, paragraph 1, point “e”, and article 6, paragraph 3, both of GDPR, as well as paragraph 4 of the Hamburg Data Protection Act, and paragraph 3 of the Hamburg Higher Education Act.

Information about necessary cookies

To optimize our web presence, we use necessary session cookies. These are small text files stored in your computer's main memory. These cookies are deleted after you close the browser. Other cookies remain on your computer (long-term cookies) and permit its recognition on your next visit. The legal basis for processing this data is article. 6, paragraph 1, point “e”, and article 6, paragraph 3, both of GDPR, as well as paragraph 4 of the Hamburg Data Protection Act, and paragraph 3 of the Hamburg Higher Education Act.

Web analysis with Matomo

This website uses the open source analysis tool MATOMO (formerly Piwik) (www.matomo.org,) to generate statistical reports on the use of the website. MATOMO stores the collected data (including time, page retrieved, browser used, operating system) in a database. The evaluations generated by MATOMO are completely anonymous and cannot be used to identify individuals. IP addresses are pseudonymised before they enter the database to comply with legal requirements. A linking of the stored data with other data sources or a transfer to third parties does not take place.
This tool is only functional if you have accepted Statistics Cookies in our cookie banner.
The legal basis for processing this data is the informed consent according to article 6, section 1, point “a” of the GDPR.

Incorporation of third-party services and content

We use content from third parties on our online offering, such as videos from YouTube and maps from Google Maps. In addition, we have integrated the Google search engine into our offering. This requires that the providers of this content (hereinafter referred to as “third party providers”) are able to see the IP addresses of users as the content cannot be sent to the browser of the respective user without the IP address. Therefore, the IP address is required to display such content. Nevertheless, we have no influence over whether such third-party providers store the IP address, such as for statistical purposes, for example. We will inform the users about any details we have in this respect.

Regarding the usage of YouTube plug-ins
Our website incorporates a plug-in from YouTube, which is operated by Google Inc., 1600 Amphitheater Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, United States (“Google”).
If you access pages on our website that contain such a plug-in, you will be connected to the YouTube servers and the plug-in will be displayed on the website by communicating with your browser. The plug-in will send back data to the YouTube server about which IP address you used to access our Internet sites. If you are logged in as a member of YouTube/Google, YouTube will associate this information with your respective personal user accounts on these platforms. When you use these plug-ins, by, for example, clicking on the video or its play button or by submitting a comment, this information will be associated with your YouTube user account.You can this by logging out of your personal Google account before using our website. By default, we embed YouTube videos according to your data protection settings. You can choose whether you want to access them: until you click on the confirmation banner, no data is transmitted to YouTube/Google.

Google reCAPTCHA
By default, our newsletter tool uses reCAPTCHA when you sign up for our newsletter or any of the two project related networks. Google reCAPTCHA sets to distinguish between humans and bots. This is beneficial for the website, in order to make valid user reports. The following data is collected to check whether you are a human or a computer:

  • IP address of the device used,
  • which of our pages with the captcha you visit,
  • the date and duration of the visit,
  • the identification data of the device used
  • Browser and operating system type,
  • Google account if you are logged in to Google,
  • mouse movements on the reCaptcha areas and tasks for which you have to identify images.
    This tool is only functional if you have accepted Marketing Cookies, or if you directly click on the confirmation banner to access the reCAPTCHA.
    You have the right to object at any time to such processing of personal data relating to you, based on article 6, paragraph 1, point “f” of the GDPR, by blocking Marketing Cookies in our Cookie Banner. Cleverreach

We use the CleverReach program for managing and sending our newsletter, and for the subscription to our Network “Historic Cities against Plastic Waste”, to which you may subscribe if you wish.
The following data is transmitted to CleverReach:

  • Your e-mail address
  • Your IP-address
    You may subscribe to our newsletter by inputting your e-mail address on https://bioplasticseurope.eu/newsletter. We will then send you a confirmation e-mail, and you become a subscriber only after clicking on the button confirming your consent to receive the newsletter. This is called “double opt-in”. If you do not confirm you consent within 24 hours, your personal information will be automatically erased after one month. We record your IP-address when you subscribe to the newsletter and confirm your subscription. The purpose for this is to keep a record of your subscription and to be able to detect a possible misuse of your personal data. Your e-mail address will be stored after your confirmation and only be used to send you the newsletter. Our free newsletter informs you regularly by e-mail about our project, related news and events. By subscribing to your newsletter, you give consent to these terms. You can unsubscribe at any time or revoke your consent by sending an e-mail to bioplastics@ls.haw-hamburg.de or by following the instructions given in the newsletter e-mail. Your data will be deleted within one week after the newsletter reception, provided that the deletion does not conflict with any statutory storage requirements.
    The Network “Historic Cities against Plastic Waste” fosters the sharing of cooperative knowledge of Best Practices and Lessons Learned among the participating cities. If you are working in public administration and would like to join this network, you can subscribe here: https://bioplasticseurope.eu/networks. We will then send you a confirmation e-mail, and you become a subscriber after clicking on the button where you confirm your consent to be a member of the network. This is called “double opt-in”.     We hereby inform you that we evaluate your user behaviour when we send the newsletter and when you subscribe to the network. We keep this tracking to the minimum (i.e. how many times the newsletter is opened; which links have been clicked on, including the unsubscribe button). For this purpose, the e-mails contain “web beacons” or “tracking pixels”, which are one-pixel image files stored on our website. For our analysis we link the tracking pixels and web beacons with your e-mail address and an individual ID. The data pseudonymized, therefore there is no link to your other personal data, and a direct personal reference is excluded. You can object to this tracking at any time by clicking on the dedicated link provided in each e-mail or by informing us via bioplastics@ls.haw-hamburg.de. This information is stored as long as you are a subscriber to the newsletter or the network. After you unsubscribe, the data is stored for purely statistical purposes and in an anonymized way.

Deletion of the Personal Data

Your personal data will be deleted after the purpose for which they were collected has been fulfilled, unless you have given your consent to be contacted again. Consent can be revoked with effect for the future. Please contact us under bioplastics@ls.haw-hamburg.de. After expiry of deadlines as per tax-related and commercial regulations, these data are deleted unless you have expressly consented to their further use.

Rights of the Data Subject

Users of our website have the following rights:

  • Right to access your personal data that is stored by us (Art. 15 GDPR).
  • Right to request rectification of incorrect or incomplete personal data (Art. 16 GDPR).
  • Right to the erasure of personal data concerning you, unless the processing of such data is required for purposes of exercising the right of freedom of expression and information or of complying with a legal obligation, for reasons of public interest, or for the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims (Art. 17 GDPR).
  • Right to the restriction of the processing of personal data (Art. 18 GDPR).
  • Right to object to any processing that is in the public interest or is used for purposes of profiling, unless we are able to demonstrate compelling legitimate grounds for the processing which override your interests, rights and freedoms or for the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims (Art. 21 GDPR). Right to revoke your previously given consent to the collection, processing and use of your personal data at any time for future collection, processing and use (Art. 7 (3) GDPR). If you exercise this right, we may no longer perform the data processing that we had been performing on the basis of such consent.
  • Right to file a complaint with a supervisory authority if you believe that the processing of personal data concerning you violates the terms of the GDPR (Art. 77 GDPR).
