Bio-Plastics Europe published our first public deliverable, a handbook on how bio-based and biodegradable plastic waste impacts existing waste management systems.

The project BIO-PLASTICS EUROPE just published the first public deliverable, the handbook “On the impacts of bio-based and biodegradable plastics (and additives) on existing waste management frameworks”. It was developed aiming to reach the goal of ensuring capacity building for the development of sustainable strategies and solutions for bio-based plastic products, as well as the development of approaches, focused on circular innovation for the whole bio-based plastics system. This handbook brings together a number of key topics on bio-based and biodegradable plastics for a broad audience of decision-makers on national and regional level, business representatives, scientists, and citizens. Topics covered include the instruction of concepts related to bio-based and biodegradable plastic, Life Cycle Assessment and Circular Economy, the assessment of the impact bio-based, biodegradable, and compostable plastic have on waste management technologies and systems, and an analysis of legal and policy frameworks. In addition, the handbook covers the most promising business cases from project partner countries.
