BIO-PLASTICS EUROPE Summer School in Bologna
The new plastics economy: Circular business models and sustainability
As part of the BIO-PLASTICS EUROPE project, the summer school was held at the University of Bologna from July 10 to 14 with great success. 30 international students, researchers and professionals from 16 different nationalities, previously selected from over 100 applicants, participated in the five-day program. Together, participants gained a comprehensive understanding of innovative business models, sustainable solutions and the potential of bio-based plastics to contribute to the New Plastics Economy. Under the guidance of two skilled mentors, five outstanding tutors and many expert faculty with extensive academic and professional experience in the field of circular economy and sustainability, participants were invited to address real-life industrial challenges posed by four companies operating in the plastics value chain. The summer school was quite intensive and characterized by lectures, industrial talks, mentoring, tutoring, group team working sessions and company visits in which the students could actively participate and get creative themselves. Exchange and cooperation among the international students were also particularly encouraged. One of the participants concluded: "It's a great learning experience, and I'm glad to be here. Working in an international team to solve real-world problems with the help of experts is a great opportunity for me.”.
